In light of recent news, we want you to be rest assured that LSCU is taking steps to continue protecting your personal information. If you call our Member Service Center, you may notice that we have enhanced our security procedure for verifying Members by phone.

As you may already be aware, Equifax, one of the three major credit bureaus, had a data breach that affected millions of American's personal information. Equifax set up a site that allows you to check and see if your information may have been compromised, you can find the link on Equifax's homepage.

LSCU has responded to the threat of potential fraud attempts by enhancing our security measures for verifying Member identification in our Member Service Center. If you currently use our Member Service Center for your financial needs, or if you need to call in the future, you can have peace of mind knowing we have taken necessary precautions and continue to protect your personal and financial information.

For those who were affected, monitoring their accounts and credit report is more important than ever. Criminals may use the compromised information and attempt to open new loans and accounts. Here are a few steps you can take to prevent fraud:

  1. Check your credit report for new lines of credit, addresses, and other information you do not recognize. Remember, you are able to get a copy of your credit report for free once a year from each of the three major credit bureaus.
  2. Keep an eye on your checking and savings accounts for suspicious transactions and other activity. Online and mobile banking make viewing your daily activity easy and convenient.
  3. Sign up for a ID theft protection service. LSCU debit cardholders can enroll in Mastercard's ID Theft Alerts for free. There are also several companies that offer this service for a small monthly charge - including LifeLock and ID Shield.
